SCSO is an innovative community orchestra composed of professional and amateur musicians, led by Genevieve Bignell, and conducted by Dr Fletcher Mitchell.
We are the driving force for orchestral music on the Sunshine Coast - we perform challenging repertoire, commission new works, book high quality soloists, and proudly support emerging talent. Our highest aim is always to delight our audience members and bring new people to experience the magic of orchestral music.
Maybe you used to love playing your instrument but put this aside for family or career interests, maybe you're an adult learner and you have reached a performance standard where you're ready to take the next step, maybe you're new to the Sunshine Coast and looking to connect with other musicians and enjoy being part of an amazing group....
We're currently looking for brass and percussion players, and have a fabulous first concert planned for March 2025.
SCSO keeps a guest player list as well as a wait list of applications, so please apply even if it appears there's no current vacancy available for your instrument. In general we accept applications from players AMEB/equivalent Gr 6 and above.
We rehearse at Stella Maris Primary School, Monday Nights 7-9pm. We make allowances for shift workers but otherwise attendance at all rehearsals is expected. School holidays are generally quarantined from the rehearsal schedule.
We hold 4-5 concerts a year and attract audiences of 600+ at our Caloundra Event Centre performances.
