FORESTS, FJORDS AND FOLKLORE – REVIEW By Adrian King (Conductor)
The evening of the15th of July realised an impressive and outstanding concert promoted by the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra at Caloundra.
The Romantic and Nationalistic programme entitled Forests, Fjords & Folklore encompassed Grieg’s piano concerto in A minor, featuring Hannah Pike as the outstanding and wonderful soloist. Hannah displayed such dazzling dexterity and masterful control in her mesmerising performance that she most deservedly received a standing ovation at the conclusion of the epic thirty minutes!
The poignant Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, the stunning Slavonic Dances by Dvorak, the hypnotising rhythms and figures of the Karelia Suite and hauntingly beautiful yet dramatic Finlandia Tone Poem – Sibelius’s magnificent contribution to the Nationalistic movement – were all played by the members of the orchestra with verve and passionate brilliance, befitting the composer’s thoughts, ideas and concepts.
The S. C. S. O. was most ably led with precision and confidence by Anna Moores and conducted by Adrian King. The concert played to a full house at the Uniting Church was indubitably a resounding success. Thank you!
