Fantasy and Imagination
A concert of Fantasy and Imagination:
St Mark’s Anglican Church Buderim
2pm Saturday18th March 2017.
A brilliant and superbly played programme of fantasy and imagination pieces was given by the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at 2pm in St Mark’s Anglican Church, Buderim.
This presentation of programmatic music had been designed to appeal to the younger audience and this it did without question, as amongst the full house audience were at least fifty children.
The committee had carefully planned the afternoon with meticulous care with a colouring competition and Magician entertaining the younger element of the audience at the interval.
The celebrated Prokofiev item Peter and the Wolf (so cleverly composed to introduce the instruments of the orchestra to children) was wonderfully narrated by Caela Newland-Nell and all of the instrumental characters were confidently and musically portrayed and played great effect.
Music from Harry Potter started the second half of the concert, followed by The Chronicles of Narnia and lastly music from the trilogy Lord of the Rings.
All of these pieces were excellently played by the musicians, with the specific sections of the orchestra – percussion – brass – woodwind and strings playing a very vital role in the interpreting of the various sections in the titles.
The orchestra was wonderfully lead by Alex Pattri with Adrian King in charge of the baton.
The concert was indubitably a resounding success in all areas of planning playing and staging – well worth repeating later in the coming year.
