FANTASY AND IMAGINATION – Review
FAMILY EVENT – an orchestral concert – “Fantasy and Imagination”
Such was the ever popular programme of fantasy and imagination pieces given by the SCSO at St Mark’s Anglican Church in Buderim that it was again repeated at the Uniting Church, Caloundra on Saturday 17th June.
The committee – spear headed by Phillipa Hancock – had again carefully planned the afternoon with meticulous care but with the addition of puppetry and ingenious visual aids operated by the children in the audience for the Prokofiev, with the addition of Mitch the Magician entertaining the younger element of the audience at the interval.
The celebrated Prokofiev item – Peter and the Wolf – (so cleverly composed to introduce the instruments of the orchestra to children) was superbly and sympathetically narrated by George Cuffe, with all of the instrumental characters being confidently and musically portrayed.
Music from Harry Potter started the second half of the concert, followed by The Chronicles of Narnia and lastly music from the trilogy Lord of the Rings.
All of these pieces were excellently played by the musicians, with the specific sections of the orchestra – percussion – brass – woodwind and strings playing a very vital role in the interpreting of the various sections in the titles.
The SCSO was excellently lead by Anna Moores with Adrian King wielding the ‘wand’.
The concert was again indubitably a resounding success in all areas of planning playing and staging – well worth the repeat performance!
