ROMANTIC MASTERS – AFTERNOON CONCERT (MAROOCHYDORE)
On Saturday 16th of September at 2pm, the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra will be performing their concert Romantic Masters at St Peter’s Anglican Church, Maroochydore.
Come listen, enjoy and experience something ‘out of the norm’ a little bit different – a horn concerto!
Bach was one of the first composers in his Brandenburg No.1 in F to use the horn as a solo instrument along with his contemporaries Vivaldi and Corelli.
Consequently, due to the technical advancement of the instrument, Haydn, Mozart and later Schumann, Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Strauss then developed the instrument’s range and power through their compositions so that it became the virtuosic instrument of today.
Richard Strauss wrote two concerti for Horn, both in the key of Eb.
Strauss’ Horn Concerto No.1 features in the Sunshine Coast Symphony’s September concert and is played by Liam Horne, a rising leading exponent and superb player of the instrument’s repertoire!
The concerto is in three movements which are played continuously, and the composition is typical of Strauss’ music at this time in being Romantic in style, showing the influence of Mendelssohn.
The programme also features the Nationalistic, hauntingly melodic, Slavonic Dances by Dvorak, the Peer Gynt Suite No.1, and two of Sibelius’ cornerstones of the orchestral repertoire, his Karelia Suite and the Tone Poem, “Finlandia”.
Be immersed and absorbed in the dramatic and brilliant performances of the Sunshine Coast Orchestra’s players and soloist, conducted by Adrian King.
An afternoon tea of cupcakes is included.
