The “Classics and Cupcakes” concert was performed at Saint Peters Anglican Church Maroochydore on a warm sunny superb Spring afternoon. The orchestra was installed in the church and the audience arrived from 1.30pm on to enjoy the 2.00pm concert which commenced with Finlandia written by Jean Sibelius played with rousing enthusiasm. This was followed by the delightful Baroque Allegro and Pastorale from the Christmas Concerto of Corelli. A total change of pace again with the Carl Maria von Weber Concerto Opus 73 in F Minor 1st Movement, with the Clarinet solo played by Ian Edwards receiving long and loud applause. Next was Fantasia on Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams and the first half of the concert concluding with Christmas at the Movies arranged by Krogstad.
At interval the audience was presented with a truly baronial spread of cupcakes, cakes, squares slices and gluten free tasty morsels, in the church hall. At the end of the interval the raffles were drawn with the lucky winners getting Concert Tickets, Restaurant vouchers and a lovely tiered cake plate and cupcakes.
The second half opened with a triumphant rendition of Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copeland followed by his popular Hoedown. Adagio and Allegretto for the Petite Symphonie by Charles-francois Gounod was the next delightful offering followed by one of the Conductor Adrian King’s favourites, In the Bleak Midwinter by Holst. And what better way to finish the concert than with the audience joining in singing as the orchestra played “Land of Hope and Glory” by Sir Edwards Elgar.
At the conclusion of the concert there were smiles all around, with the audience eagerly looking forward to the Proms Concerts 7.00pm Saturday 21st November.
